SIMI VALLEY, Ventura County — Home gardeners interested in reducing runoff and making better use of seasonal rainfall can join an online Rain to Roots: Water for Your Garden workshop on Thursday, December 3, 2026, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The City of Simi Valley lists the virtual class in its Public Works calendar. It is hosted by Green Media Creations and sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District. The workshop focuses on practical ways to capture and retain rainwater in landscaped areas, rather than relying entirely on conventional outdoor irrigation.
What the class covers
According to the official announcement, the presentation will compare passive and active rainwater capture methods, including rain gardens, drainage swales and storage tanks. It also addresses selecting the appropriate location and size for a rain garden, handling overflow to prevent erosion or local flooding, and maintenance.
Residents should not assume that every installation is suitable for every property. Slope, soil, access and applicable local requirements can all affect a rainwater-capture project; the webinar provides background for evaluating options, not site-specific engineering approval.
Registration is required for the Zoom session. The city directs attendees to Green Media Creations’ registration page; participants receive a meeting link with confirmation.
